Vladimír Špidla was Prime Minister of the Czech Republic from 2002 to 2004. Since 2011, he is Director of the social democratic think tank Masarykova Demokratická Academy. From 2014 to 2017, Špidla headed the Advisory Council of Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka. From 2004 to 2010, he was EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities.
