Jan Beránek is an ecologist and leading the Energy program at Greenpeace International. In 1989, together with Jakub Patočka, he founded the DUHA Movement, where he focused on energy politics and especially on the construction of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant. He chaired the Czech Green Party from 2003 to 2005, when, among other things, he won mandates in the Senate and the regional council. He is the director of WISE Brno and the coordinator of the Stop Dam initiative, which monitors the issue of planning new dams in the Czech Republic. Since summer 2007, he has been working at the headquarters of Greenpeace International in Amsterdam.
