David van Reybrouck

David Van Reybrouck is one of Belgium’s leading authors and intellectuals. He studied archeology and philosophy at the universities of Leuven and Cambridge and obtained his PhD in Leiden. In 2008, he published the pamphlet A plea for populism, followed by Congo: The Epic History of a People, a bestseller that has been translated from Dutch in more than twelve languages. His 2013 book Against Elections: The Case for Democracy was translated in twenty languages and received endorsement from Kofi Annan. In 2011, he started the G1000 project, the platform for democratic innovation that aims to increase citizen participation in democratic decision-making.
