Elena Zacharenko is a political scientist and policy expert with several years of experience of influencing EU policy in the area of rights through international non-profit organisations. Her areas of interest include sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality, women’s rights and social justice. She authored a study on the anti-choice mobilisation in Europe and its influence on EU policy making, released in 2017, a chapter on 'Reproductive rights as a social justice issue in the EU' in the FES 'The Future of the European Union:Feminist Perspectives from East-Central Europe' (ed. Eszter Kovats) volume and co-authored a chapter on women’s support to right-wing parties in Poland in the FES ‘Triumph of the women? The Female Face of the Populist and Far Right inEurope’ (ed. Elisa Gutsche) publication.
